While ice is a cocktail ingredient that is either crushed in with a mixture or added as a sort of afterthought, ice is actually more important than you may think. Here at Mobile Bar Hire, we have for years seen ice misused in cocktails. While a rather basic recipe, ice can actually be the difference between a good and a great cocktail. Here’s why:

A frozen garnish

2018 has seen many trends come and go. However, ice cubes as garnishes is a trend that is showing no sign of melting away. Seeing many bartenders get creative with their garnishes, fruit and herbs set in ice has proven to be a real fashion of late. Try setting the following in ice cubes for an eye-catching, delicious addition to your G&T:

  • raspberry
  • strawberry
  • sprig of rosemary
  • mint leaf
  • Star anise

Chill your glass!

In addition to being part of a cocktail’s ingredients list, ice can also be used in the cocktail-making process. For instance, when combining your cocktail ingredients, you should fill your glasses with ice, allowing the cubes to chill the glass and subsequently, the drink. This means you get a nice cold cocktail without running the risk of ice diluting your booze.

One cube will do

In our opinion, many mixologists overuse ice, a style makes for weak watered-down drinks if not drank quickly. This is why we do not use ice where not necessary..In our opinion, the following cocktails require just the one ice cube:

  • Gin & Tonic
  • Dark N Stormy
  • Bloody Mary
  • Skrewdriver
  • Mai Tai
